KIGALI, Rwanda (AP) — The interior ministers of Britain and Rwanda signed a treaty on Tuesday that aims to revive a plan to send asylum-seekers to the East African country that had been blocked by U.K. courts.British Home Secretary James Cleverly said the legally binding agreement signed with his Rwandan counterpart, Vincent Biruta, would “address all the issues” raised by the U.K. Supreme Court when it ruled last month that the policy was unlawful. The court said the plan was illegal because Rwanda is not a safe country for refugees. Britain’s top court said asylum-seekers faced “a real risk of ill-treatment” and could be returned by Rwanda to the home countries they had fled. The treaty includes a promise by Rwanda not to send asylum-seekers back to their home countries, even if their applications are refused.“We feel very strongly that this treaty addresses all of the issues raised by their lordships in the Supreme Court and we have worked very closely with our Rwandan partners to ...

With a kit or from scratch, you can grow mushrooms indoors at home

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 10:32:27 GMT

My late Uncle Pepe was an avid mushroom hunter, rising early on late-summer Saturdays, field guide in hand, to head to a local New York City park for his weekly forage. Upon his return, my Aunt Jenny would meticulously wash the hen-of-the-woods, turkey tail or other fungi free of soil and insects, and sauté them with hot peppers or add them to sauces or stews. Then the phone call would come, inviting my family over to share the bounty. My father was always game, but my mother, who firmly believed in the old adage, “There are old mushroom hunters, and there are bold mushroom hunters, but there are no old, bold mushroom hunters,” wouldn’t allow us to partake in the feast until the following day, when my aunt’s and uncle’s survival would provide proof of its safety.“They’re alive!” she would announce, holding the phone to one ear. And off we would go to enjoy the spoils of my uncle’s latest quest.More than 40 years later, I still find myself craving those mushrooms. But since I’m not a ...

New York (CNN) — CVS is revamping the way it reimburses its pharmacies for prescription medications, a move that could change how much consumers pay for their prescription drugs. The company said in an announcement Tuesday that its new pharmacy reimbursement model will bring more transparency and simplicity to its drug pricing system.Currently, the prices customers pay for drugs and the payments pharmacies receive are largely determined by middlemen known as pharmacy benefit managers, which negotiate rebates from drug manufacturers to insurers. These complex reimbursement formulas aren’t directly based on what pharmacies spent to purchase specific drugs. The new approach, named CVS CostVantage, will use a simpler formula that includes the cost of the drug, a set markup and a fee to determine the drug’s price and reimbursement with pharmacy benefit managers. It is expected to launch for commercial payors in 2025. The Wall Street Journal was first to report the news. The move could chang...
