Miami Marlins hand out presents to children at Loan Depot Park The Miami Marlins teamed up with another organization and stepped up to the plate to help some families have a happier holiday.The baseball team gave back to the community they love and scored a grand slam with children.Christmas came early for some lucky children thanks to the Miami Marlins. Marlins all-star pitcher Sandy Alcan-Tara and Billy the Marlin helped passed out presents to the children.It was nothing but smiles Monday at the annual Holiday Wishes Party where children from undeserved families receive a present and a good time at Loan Depot Park.“A special moment for me and for them,” Alcan-Tara said. Roughly $9,000 in tools stolen from Habitat for Humanity construction site in Worcester A construction crime recently targeted a charitable cause when Habitat for Humanity’s MetroWest/Greater Worcester chapter said roughly $9,000 of tools were taken from one of its construction sites.  The Habitat for Humanity chapter in a statement on Monday said the theft happened at a construction site on Sunderland Road in Worcester on the night of Dec. 5. In this case, Habitat for Humanity said, the padlocks on two trailers were found cut and tossed on the ground. Among the items stolen were 10 cordless impact drivers, valued at $1,190; two nail guns, valued at $718; a hammer drill, valued at $399; and an impact wrench valued at $349. Habitat for Humanity said many of the tolls were essential and used every day at the affordable housing project underway at the Sunderland Road site. The tools, officials said, will need to be replaced for crews to continue building.“We hope everyone in the community will be on high alert to make sure these thieves don’t ste...

Man hit, killed by car in East County RAMONA, Calif. -- A 59-year-old man crossing the street against a "Don't Walk" sign Sunday was killed when he was struck by a vehicle in Ramona, authorities said.The crash occurred around 6:15 a.m. on state Route 67 (Main St.) near the intersection of 14th Street, Officer Jared Grieshaber with the California Highway Patrol said in a news release Monday.A 23-year-old woman driving a 2023 Nissan Altima in the No. 2 lane on SR-67 crashed into the pedestrian, according to authorities. The man, who has yet to be identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Pedestrian killed after hit by multiple cars on I-805 The Nissan, which overturned while trying to avoid the pedestrian, came to a stop against the Bank of America building southwest of the intersection, per CHP. San Diego police continue to search for suspects after string of armed robberies KEARNY MESA, Calif. -- San Diego police are investigating four armed robberies that all occurred Saturday night within an hour of each other and only a few miles apart.  Another similarity, the businesses are all located right off of a freeway entrance and the suspects all appeared to be teenagers wearing black masks. The renewed access marks an important emotional milestone for victims of the Aug. 8 fire, but much work remains to be done to safely clear properties of burned debris and rebuild.The reopened areas include Banyan Tree Park, home to a 150-year-old tree that burned in the fire but that is now sprouting new leaves, Lahaina’s public library, an elementary school and popular restaurants.
