MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill is under investigation by Miami-Dade police for assault and battery after he allegedly hit a man on Sunday. The incident was first reported by WPLG-TV in Miami after the station received a tip Sunday night. Miami-Dade police spokesman Angel Rodriguez confirmed Tuesday via email that police are investigating an “assault/battery” involving Hill from Sunday. The station reported that Hill got into an argument with an employee of a charter company at Haulover Marina in Miami, which apparently ended with Hill hitting the man.“We are aware of the situation and have been in contact with Tyreek, his representatives and the NFL,” a Dolphins spokesperson said Tuesday via email. “We will reserve further comment at this time.”The Kansas City Chiefs traded Hill to Miami last year, and the Dolphins gave the three-time All-Pro a $120 million, four-year contract extension that made Hill the highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history. CLEVELAND (AP) — Andrés Giménez’s single in the 10th inning brought home José Ramírez from third base, lifting the Cleveland Guardians to a 3-2 win Tuesday night over the Oakland Athletics, who lost their sixth straight. With the bases loaded and none out, Giménez dropped his single off Trevor May (2-4) just inside the right-field line for Cleveland’s fourth walk-off win this season.Giménez was then mobbed by his teammates, who were blanked for six innings before tying it in the seventh on Amed Rosario’s RBI single and Ramírez’s run-scoring double.Enyel De Los Santos (3-1) kept the A’s from taking the lead in the 10th and got the win.Oakland dropped to 19-56, the club’s worst record since the 1920 Philadelphia A’s started with the same mark.Ramírez began the 10th as the runner on second and the A’s chose to intentionally walk the red-hot Josh Naylor to face Tyler Freeman, who dropped a bunt in front of the plate. STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. (KDVR) — Wildlife officials captured a bear that broke into multiple homes in Steamboat Springs and euthanized it on Tuesday afternoon. The bear was caught in a spot where it had been before, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Biden labels China’s Xi Jinping a dictator

Published Thu, 20 Feb 2025 19:38:30 GMT

President Joe Biden called Chinese President Xi Jinping a dictator on Tuesday when speaking about a spy balloon that the U.S. shot down in February.“The reason why Xi Jinping got very upset in terms of when I shot that balloon down with two box cars full of spy equipment is he didn’t know it was there,” Biden said in remarks at a campaign event in Kentfield, Calif., according to a White House pool report. “That was the great embarrassment for dictators, when they didn’t know what happened.”Military reports about an unidentified Chinese surveillance balloon traversing continental U.S. made headlines at the beginning of February, sparking bipartisan outrage and concern about foreign intrusion into American airspace. A few days later, an American fighter jet shot the balloon down off the coast of the Carolinas.“It was blown off course up through Alaska and then down through the United States and he didn’t know about it,” Biden said about the balloon’s path. Italy has won migration, it’s aiming for Europe next

Published Thu, 20 Feb 2025 19:38:30 GMT

BRUSSELS — The stage was set. In one corner: Italy, Giorgia Meloni, and a coterie of conservatives sensing an opportunity. In the other: Germany, Olaf Scholz, and a fractious coalition on the left. The two combatants were battling over a deal to reshape, for the first time in years, how the EU welcomes and relocates migrants. And the talks were on the brink of failing, just as they had for years. Italy wanted more authority to remove rejected asylum seekers. Germany was worried it would create human rights violations. But this time, when Italy and the conservatives didn’t budge, Germany and the left blinked. It was a telling moment. Germany, the EU’s most populated country and its largest economy, often gets what it wants when negotiating in Brussels. Italy, with its constantly changing governments, doesn’t.This time, however, the ground had shifted. Europe’s traditional center-right conservatives were now willing to caucus with Meloni, who leads a post-fasci...

It’s a huge ask — convincing countries and investors to plow billions of dollars of aid and investment into a country at war.But for a growing number of countries, supporting Ukraine looks like a gamble worth taking, as Europe tries to stave off a humanitarian and economic disaster on its continent. The price tag is already a cool $411 billion, according to the World Bank, United Nations and European Commission — a figure that will only increase as the war grinds on. But as top global figures, governments and private investors flock to London Wednesday for the Ukraine Recovery Conference, signs point to the Western world preparing to open its purse strings to help Ukraine rebuild.  On Tuesday, the European Commission unveiled a new multi-year, billion-euro project to help with the reconstruction of Ukraine — the first major economic grouping to outline a costed, multi-annual funding plan. Private investors are also limbering up. BlackRock and JPMorgan C...
